Bachelor or master

German universities have an outstanding reputation throughout the world. Each year they produce significant, internationally recognised advances and innovations.

There are more than 400 state-recognised universities in Germany, including more than 200 universities of applied sciences.

An increasing number of the students at German universities come from abroad. In 2023, around 458,000 international students enrolled at German universities. Compared to 2013, their number rose by more than 62 per cent. They can choose from almost 12,000 undergraduate (bachelor’s) and almost as many postgraduate (master’s) degree programmes. More than 2,000 are taught in English.
