First AR-based Fraunhofer app developed at Fraunhofer HHI

The augmented reality app DEVA (Dynamic Exposure Visualization App) from the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI) is now available for free in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. The app enables users to visualize air pollution and other environmental data in their surroundings in real time. Using AR visualizations such as floating particles, it displays pollutants like CO2, NO2, and particulate matter directly in the three-dimensional space around the user's location. The goal is to raise awareness of local environmental conditions.

In addition to visualizing pollutants, DEVA allows users to record routes and monitor air quality along their paths. This data is integrated into the Dynamic Exposure Visualization Dashboard (DEV-D) for comprehensive analyses. DEVA leverages publicly available air pollution data from sensor networks and web platforms to visualize complex environmental data in an easily understandable way. The app was developed as part of the European research project H2020 COMPAIR, which focuses on digital tools to enhance air quality monitoring with citizen participation in four pilot cities. Experts at Fraunhofer HHI bring years of experience in developing innovative solutions for real-time virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions, prioritizing an optimized end-user experience. AR is a key technology for making data accessible to a broad audience and influencing both individual behavior and political decision-making processes.
